Auto and Truck

Listed below are various examples of workholding applications we have provided for Auto and Truck components. Unless specified, the examples will be in Solidworks. To view some of these files, you will need Solidworks edrawings software. You can download it for free HERE.

Large Diff Case

This O.D. Grip Collet Chuck was designed for second operation turning of the diameters and face. Part orientation was required. The chuck is designed with pull back to allow the part to positively locate against fixed stops. You will notice that the part is not symetrically shaped. This required design to account for balance issues presented by the part.

Smaller Diff Case

This example shows multiple chuck designs throughout the process. ITW provided workholding through the entire process.

 Clutch Housing

This is a compensating UBL, utilizing a top mounted collet assembly to centralize the part. Operation was turning the I.D. Also incorporated in the design was a dampner assembly which supported the thin wall of the part to remove vibration during machining.

Rotor

The examples shown below are for full turning of a rotor, thru operation 30.

In this first operation turning, a CC chuck is used to grip between the brake plates, for turning the face of the rotor.

This UBL chuck is being used as a op. 20 chuck, gripping the I.D., utilizing pull back to positively locate the face against fixed locators.

In this example, you will see a Diaphragm chuck grip the O.D. for op. 30 turning.

Hub

This example shows a 250mm UBL gripping the O.D. of a Hub for I.D. turning. The chuck is gripping the O.D., and pulling the part against fixed stops to provide maximum support and rigidity.
